Project Overview

The Province of BC is building a new courthouse within the City Centre Civic Precinct in the City of Abbotsford, and Glenco Electric is the main electrical contractor for phase 3 of this design-build project. The project scope includes three Supreme Court courtrooms, eight Provincial Court courtrooms and three judicial conference rooms, for a total of 14 law courtrooms. The facility plans also incorporate justice programs like Crown counsel, community corrections, and a Justice Access Centre, as well as a parkade to supplement parking requirements for the City of Abbotsford.

Project Details

The scope of the electrical design and installation of this project is 2-years and worth $11.5-million, and will be open and operating in 2021. The project included the design and installation of a 1750kVA indoor unit substation, with a 600kW generator located on the second level of the parkade. We also managed the IMIT (Information Management/Information Technology), AV (Audio/Video), and security systems, as well as all life safety systems, which includes fire alarms, emergency lighting and exit signs. The project included three 200kW uninterruptible power sources, to provide sufficient battery backup in the event of a power failure before the backup generators can take over.
